Day of the Locust: John Schlesinger’s 1975 adaptation of Nathanael West’s novel. One of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen in my life, and also one of the most interesting.
The film really does terrify me—there are some scenes that are just so unsettling, and a general sinister atmosphere—but I won’t talk about that for this post. Here I just wanted to show off the movie’s amazing costumes. The work of the legendary Ann Roth, these costumes are gorgeous. The film is set in the 1930s, but it was made in the 1970s. So how could she really go wrong with the costumes? Disco-inspired silver screen style, after all.
