Time to break out the six-pack of champagne and a funnel—it’s the one-year anniversary of They Roared Vintage!
Well, technically, I started TRV back in 2007. But it’s the one-year anniversary of partnering up with my lovely Amber and actually running things properly. We’ve had a great first year and have put in so, so much work. We have had some amazing adventures and have stumbled across some incredible discoveries.
Vintage surprises and mysteries never get old.
We’ve had lots of support throughout the year, and I want to say thank you to everyone who’s worked hard for us, promoted our shop, and featured us: Portable TV, Spanish Moss, About.com, and Etsy. Thank you also to Tumblr for making me into a vintage editor.
A huge, huge thank you also goes to our photographers: the wonderful Enid Valu and my husband Jordan Chesney, who is also our videographer. We’re also grateful to Justin Smith for his beautiful photography, and to our makeup artists Kelli Carlson, Elizabeth Tolley, Amy Powell, and especially Shannella DuPuis.
Our beautiful and hardworking models breathe life into our vintage. Thank you so much, chickies! We love and appreciate you: Marita Gomsrud, Marisha Ray Huber, Offi Ekah, Annia Koroliak, Judit Fekete, Mariel Noir, Genevieve Lamb, Nicole Seyle, Erin Scully, Emmeli Tomth, Nichole Smith, Holly Freeman, Anna, Janelle Reaves, Lindsey Rourke, Denise Cochran, Megan Poplin, and of course Amber Joy, who has often had to not only model and look pretty, but has had to run around all day organizing at the same time.
I’m having such a good time getting to work with vintage and my friends all the time, and I’m proud of what we’ve gotten through in the last year. Here are a few of my favorite highlights…
• My favorite videos are TWIN ROAR and HELLO ROAR. Jordan’s editing is always brilliant, but I think it’s especially good in these two. It’s exactly what I have always pictured for They Roared Vintage.
• My two favorite lookbooks: BEACH ROAR and our most recent, VALLEY ROAR. I love all of our lookbooks, but Beach Roar was our very first, and it came out so gorgeously. And Valley Roar is just a pretty, sun-washed dream. It was also a very fun day, and the only lookbook I’ve done alone with my husband—so I like that one a lot.
• To date, I’ve posted 310 blogs here on the site. My ten favorites that I have written are 25 Favorite Live Performances; Love Amongst Everywhere; Au Revoir, Elsa; The Girl Who Cried “Cut!”; Dita Style; Share a Smoke, Make a Joke; 25 Things About Mad Men Season 5 (this one was so much work); Bill of Rights; Polaroid Helmut, and finally, my most personal blog post, My Life in Vintage. I also always love doing the “Romance Inspiration” posts.
• My favorite of Amber’s blog posts are Workin’ It, Workin’ It; A Wooden House, and her recent one, All Choked Up.
And finally, a few of my favorite items that have sold over this year…
…Despite all the hard work and long hours of running They Roared Vintage, I’d say the most difficult part of the job is when we have to part with a piece that we love. But we’re always happy to give our clothes new homes, because it just means we get to go out and find more vints. And because, you know, the point of having a shop is to actually sell things.
