Besides the clothes we sell, our fashion films are my favorite thing about They Roared Vintage.
A few months ago, I decided to pay homage to one of my all-time favorite photographers, Helmut Newton, by making him the central theme of our newest lookbook and fashion film to be added to our Roar series. He’s been one of my icons for years, and I wanted to do something different and interesting for spring. Helmut Roar is a two-part fashion film based on my favorite Helmut Newton photographs, and featuring some of our most striking vintage pieces.
I’m so proud of these two fashion films. To me, Helmut Newton is vintage high fashion, and I hope that he would like them.
My husband Jordan Chesney, who is a filmmaker here in Los Angeles, directed and edited both pieces. His first short film, Jet, will be released in April, and he’s currently working on his next project. Helmut Roar marks the sixth fashion film he has directed for They Roared Vintage, and I’m not only happy with the work we’ve made together, but also so happy that They Roared blends together our passions of vintage and filmmaking.
