Just watched The Sleeping Beauty, another dizzingly gorgeous movie from Catherine Breillat. It’s a loose adaptation of the Brothers Grimm story, mixed in with another fairy tale—actually my favorite one—“The Snow Queen”.
Although I am once again disappointed in the climax of the film (Catherine Breillat has the ability to startle me, and I want her to keep doing it, but she hasn’t been lately), this film made my eyes 100% happy. The colors, costumes, and cinematography are perfect.
