Measurements

Whether you already know your measurements or not, we suggest you read the information here so that your purchase(s) will fit you.

To find your body measurements, take your favorite garment that fits you well and lie it flat with the folds along natural seams. Be sure to smooth out wrinkles and much as possible. Next, measure like so:

Tops/Dresses

Shoulders with sleeves: Measure width across back of neckline between shoulder seams.
Shoulders without sleeves: Measure widest part across back at neckline between edges.
Sleeves: Measure from top of shoulder seam to top of wrist seam, along edge of sleeve.
Bust: Measure width across chest below arm openings, and double (so 16” wide = 32” bust).
Waist: Measure width across smallest part of waist, and double (so 14” wide = 28” waist).
Hips: Measure width across front before before garment starts to taper in or remain straight, and double.
Length: Measure straight down from neck opening at top to bottom edge of garment.

Inseam: Measure inside seam of leg from top to bottom.

Vintage Measuring Guide

After measuring your favorite form-fitting garment in this way, compare your measurements to ours. If they are close, then they will fit similarly.

“Fits Like” Sizing

Each of our vintage pieces are labeled XS, S, M, L, or XL; however, the best way to determine if the piece will fit you is to measure your favorite form-fitting garment and compare those measurements to ours (directions on how to do this are above). Sizing letters are simply an approximation of what the item fits like.

Each of our items includes measurements in its listing. These are not body measurements; they are garment measurements and therefore should be slightly bigger than your body measurements.

Washcare

We recommend washing vintage items before wearing them. Please note the type of cleaning your vintage requires before laundry time. Wash care is included in each listing.

Hand Wash: Hand wash in a clean sink with cold water and mild detergent. Hang or lie flat to dry.
Machine Wash: Follow machine wash instructions on label. If no instructions are provided on label, machine wash on gentle cycle in cold water with mild detergent, then hang or lie flat to dry.
Dry Clean: Have cleaned by a professional dry cleaner, or consult a professional dry cleaner for proper care.

Vintage Condition

At They Roared Vintage, we handpick each item based on its beauty, uniqueness, and condition. Our pieces are from anytime between the 1920s and the 1980s, which means that it has been worn before and has been on many journeys. Because of this, minor wear should be expected; however, we very carefully inspect each item under bright lights and report imperfections in the item listing. We also label our pieces as Excellent, Vintage Good, or Fair to help you better understand their condition:

Excellent

As “new” as vintage gets! This means that the item does not have flaws aside from regular wear.

Vintage Good

Vintage Good means that the item has one or a few tiny imperfections, such as a very small hole, a faint stain, or an area where someone once hemmed or patched it. Nothing noticeable or distracting from the piece, but worth your knowing.

Fair

We rarely sell Fair items because they have a little more wear than normal, meaning that they may have larger stains, bigger holes, or a variety of flaws. However, when we do choose to sell a fair item, it’s because we find the piece to be unique or beautiful enough to overlook the blemishes. As with all of our items, every defect that we find is reported in detail in the item listing.

PLEASE NOTE:

Occasionally small imperfections may be missed due to large amounts of inventory. However, we are very careful in our inspections and we do our best to represent items accurately. Please also be aware that all computer monitors interpret colors differently. We have done our best to capture the accurate color of items in our product photos.  Accessories pictured with items in product photos (such as belts, shoes, and jewelry) are not included unless otherwise stated.
