WE ARE HERE TO CHANGE THE WORLD

Captain EO

This past weekend I visited Disney World and saw a little film that has changed my life: Captain EO in 3D at Epcot. At first, I had NO idea what I was about to see as I sat down and put on my funky chunky yellow glasses. It started as some weird Star Wars knock-off, with an exploding meteor flying at my face, silly little spaceship, and ragtag band of not-very-spacey creatures. The intro nearly had me cheesed out, and a little confused, until, GASP! Who suddenly blows onto the scene, and redeems all? The KING OF POP, my friends! MJ!

I’ve never been so overwhelmed by a celebrity in all my life. An unexpressed, untapped well of admiration and sorrow for this amazing artist suddenly gurgled to the surface of my emotions. As soon as I saw Michael’s face, I started tearing up, and had to work really hard to not to bawl like a child. At the same time, his opening line, said so sincerely with the little bu-gerbil-fly on his shoulder, put the biggest smile on my face.

My husband, Topher, burst into laughter, of course (Psssh. Boys).

I didn’t know what exactly was going to happen in this little short, but OH SNAP—I knew it would be EPIC. I knew that someone, somewhere in the universe, was about to be assaulted by an unstoppable musical force. I just had to sit there and get ready.

Michael’s suit was phenomenal, especially the t-shirt. I’ve never wanted something from the 80s so badly in all my life. Sadly, it was NOT being sold it in the gift shop on the way out. This was probably for the best, though, as I would have paid $100+ for the tee on the spot if it were available. But repro’s are all over the web, should I decide I really must have it.

Captain EOI was really surprised that the queen turned out to be Anjelica Huston, and that this little masterpiece was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It was pure delight, and left me completely giddy. Go see it on the full theater screen, if you can, or watch it here, if you just can’t wait.

PS: I want my own bu-gerbil-fly. Thank you, Zac, for coming up with the perfect name for that thing. And of course thank you, Michael Jackson, for giving us all the gift of your music, and being the freakin’ bomb! ♥♥♥
